There is little doubt in the world of bluegrass music that Gibson raised the standard of excellence with the development of the F-5 mandolin master model in the early 1920s.Although this instrument was originally designed for classical music concert, its adaptation in 1945 by Bill Monroe (1911-1996), coupled with his style of play, put the voice of this instrument in a separate category. Interestingly, Monroe did not ensure that Lloyd Loar developed the F-5, and Loar and Gibson did not contemplate that Monroe did not play an F-5, especially the way he did. What emerged was just a matter of extraordinary circumstances.

After seven years wearing many hats Gibson, Lloyd Loar interest in acoustic guitars, mandolins, and mandolas was down. His mind was too quick for him to stay in one place for too long, and at the end of 1924, he left the company and ventured into the world of electrically amplified musical instruments.
