Classy, masterpiece stuff; Frost, Potter and Stander
Reading one of Aaron Stander's Ray Elkins manslaughter mysteries is like drinking a fine Leelanau peninsula wine - or maybe like slurping a piece-goods e freight chocolate malt from Jones's Ice Cream Parlor in Baldwin. ('Cause I'm not really much for wine.) You don't hunger for to hurry it; you...

Glaciers custom when snow falls, but doesn’t melt. Over time, the weight and pressure from above turns the snow into ice. Glaciers are rivers of ice; they formula at higher elevations and flow downhill in response to gravity.

Obviously the ice shelf is now being held up by a very thin strip of ice. If it were to break off what sort of effect would it have on the earth, if any?

Now, this is not momentary, but the Wilkins ice bridge just gave way and it held back the Wilkins Ice Shelf. It's only a matter of interval, according to the British Antarctic Survey.

I'm not unfaltering how many, but it will be easier for Antarctic glacier melt to flow into the ocean now that the Wilkins ice shelf is no longer connected to the Antarctic continent via the ice connect.
ANZICE Part 2: Antarctic Climate Drivers
, Dr. Bertle points the dual importance of Antarctica to research climate change, namely, the role of archive records of past climates, as an agent of dramatic global environmental change and respond to current and future human-induced global warming. Nancy's research aims to give meaning to a small part of the wide range of variability of Antarctic climate.By analyzing the climate proxies preserved in ice cores from high resolution of relatively small glaciers on the coast of Victoria Land (see this previous announcement / episode for more information), Nancy's work has shown that cooling in this part episodic Antarctica is caused by the migration pathways of air masses in southern ocean, a climate phenomenon now known to be caused by the ENSO.
Under the myriad subtleties of spatially and temporally located in the Antarctic climate, however, certain trends are undeniable and pervasive.A landmark study published last year by a research group headed by Eric Steig, University of Washington, concluded that the record of 50 years of measurements from weather stations on Antarctica (supplemented by 30 years of data satellite) shows a warming trend in Antarctica to scale, including a particularly strong warming in the western Antarctica and the Ross Sea.
