I am planning to develop intensify & install a built in book shelf in an existing alcove in my family room, and trim to match the take a rest of the room. Getting a professional to do it would be way over my budget, so I am planning to do it...
take down the Sheetrock, construct the shelves to the existing studs inside the wall, then replace the sheetrock, stick and float, then trim the outside. that simple..
This is a small built-in book shelf that I did.
The try is an old lathe and plaster wall that the plaster has come off...about 1 foot X 5" extent. Do I need to replaster the wall before I put in the book shelves, or can I put up thin wall board or plywood?
Why don't you have the ministry carpenter to build the shelves in his cabinet shop with paint grade plywood applied to the back and you can fair put the unit against the wall and secure it with a drill and wood-screws into the wall framing and...
