Junker's Blues
In my work as a Junker, I do a lot of home visits, and when I am standing at the door of someone, things can get weird. Buy old stuff from someone is a very social business transaction. It often puts the seller in a reflective mood, especially if you buy arcane culture they have held for years.
I went to someone's house to watch a batch of 45 former "documents published on Craigslist.The site was a particularly rural area of Leicester, and I had to make as many odd turns and turns that road, mid-way through the trip, I was blessing my GPS Garage -dirty-marked (the GSSGPS).
I was greeted by a pair of barking pit bulls, excited kamakaziing in a fence that has been happily between them and me. It announced my arrival as clearly as I could, if the boss of the house, wearing a red, white and blue do-rag and a jean jacket with sleeves cut off and came out and greeted me.
I walked in and met his wife and his mother, who sat in chairs, the definition of the transition point between the living and dining room. His wife had a laptop, and she had to remove it from the table beside his chair at any moment. She looked at me through craigslist, announce an interesting question, wondering if she should call, and close the computer again. My host takes place in a third easy chair and lit a cigarette.
