Cookbook author Leticia Moreinos visits Danbut Stew Leonard's
Chef Leticia Schwartz Moreinos was born and raised in Ipanema, the paradise, the article seaside Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Life was not hard to take.
"Life was simple," she said. "Growing up, you ate at the beach - appetizers. There was always music in the streets by street musicians. You can stay in a bikini all day."
She grew to love the food from Brazil - plantains, cheese Minas, yucca sticks, rice and beans, Pao de queijo (cheese bread fluffy little) and brigadeiros, chocolate fudge balls.
"A woman who worked for our family has been phenomenal, intuitive cook," said Schwartz. "Looking at her, I was intrigued. She taught me to do many things. "
When Schwartz was 8, his parents gave him a book of record revenues.
"I always," she said.
Today, nearly three decades later - after coming to this country in 1997 at age 22, graduated from the French Culinary Institute in Manhattan, working for restaurants in major cities such as Cirque du Sun, and scores of teaching cooking classes - Schwartz has written more than a few recipes in a notebook.
