INTERVIEW: Mark Chiarello
The comic book was published Wednesday in the comic shops last week and hits stores everywhere this week. Comics Wednesday was perhaps one of the most innovative ideas to emerge from comic books a long time and it is exciting to see coming from DC. In 2009, for 16 weeks, a series of 15 different pages creative teams hit stores in a comic paper folded newspaper edition. Although he sought a return to the comic strips in the Sunday newspaper, it was incredibly forward-thinking idea of the CD.
The man responsible for the idea was Mark Chiarello (pictured above with the book), the artistic director of the DC comics. While many of you have never heard of him, or recognize his name, but can not attach anything to it own, it is now time to commit it to memory. Chiarello is responsible for some of the best things out of comics over the past 20 years.In addition to being the colorist on Hellboy: Seed of Destruction ("I'm the guy who made Hellboy red is sort of my claim to fame," joked Chiarello during our interview), he is the guy Darwyn Cooke who in the comics, he made Batman: Black and White together, the idea of individual DC series was his, he joined Jeph Loeb and Jim Lee for their epic run on Hush and produced some of the coolest Star Wars art in recent memory.
