Non-petitioners might still get import duties, Customs says
WASHINGTON - U.S. Customs & Border Protection has notified manufacturers that did not support national anti-dumping petitions in their respective areas to keep claims filing to request the fees collected under the Continued Dumping and Subsidy Offset Act, otherwise known as the Byrd Amendment.
Customs said that companies must file claims despite a decision by the U.S. Supreme Court not to hear an appeal by ball manufacturer SKF USA, which sought to collect a share of import duties as Non-petitioner.
In another case involving imports of Chinese wood bedroom furniture, several U.S.furniture manufacturers who are non-applicants have filed claims. Companies that have filed such Ashley Furniture, Ethan Allen Furniture Brands International Exhibition, Kimball Furniture, Solid Comfort, Standard Furniture Inds and Witmer.
An estimated $ 137 million in duties has been set aside for non-petitioners in the case of wood bedroom, where the claims are finally granted.
