Oak Park Mall gets American Girl shop
The ultra-popular American Girl doll stores in only eight of the best cities in the country - and soon Overland Park will be the ninth. </ P> Company of Wisconsin, who designs historical and contemporary dolls, will open a 9500 square foot "experience" retail store this fall at Oak Park Mall. It partakes of the former Rainforest Cafe space on the north side of the mall. </ P> "We are delighted to be part of the Kansas City market," said Wade Opland, vice president of retail for American Girl."We know a lot about where our customers live, and Kansas City is a healthy market for us." </ P> American Girl Brands LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of Mattel, Inc., was founded in 1986 as a catalog company. But customers also wanted to see and feel the products. Its first store opened in Chicago in 1998, and the company now has stores in New York, Los Angeles, Atlanta, Dallas, Denver, Boston and Minneapolis. </ P> The company said more than 2,200 people lined up for the grand opening of the store in Denver in late March, and some 8,500 customers visited throughout the day.> </ Strong More locations are planned across the country, but no more scheduled to open this year. </ P> The company said the Oak Park Mall store, at 95th Street and Quivira Road, will be its single site domain. It will sell all of the American Girl line, including baby dolls Small babies, books and accessories such as furniture, doll clothes and stuffed animals "pets." American Girl dolls will retail for $ 95, including a book. </ P> <P> Customers will also be able to get a new hairstyle for their doll and have her ears pierced in a salon doll.Another area offers custom doll T-shirts. </ P> American Girls give a history lesson while entertaining; Opland called "vitamins and chocolate."
